Recently I’ve heard a lot about the value of storytelling. It’s a powerful tool for leaders to use whether they’re selling, talking to investors or communicating with their teams. An essential component of storytelling is sharing your experiences. By sharing your experiences, you can bring your story to life.
Years ago, I heard a speaker say, “you have to do this.” With my stubborn mentality, I immediately thought to myself, “no, I don’t have to do that. I’ll figure out how to do it on my own.” That’s why when I am speaking, I try to share a lot of experiences. I never want to tell someone they must do something because there are always multiple ways to do things. Nobody has to do anything!
I try to share my experience, share what I’ve learned, and allow people to decide for themselves whether it adds value to them or not. I do this during the learning process too. As I’m reading a book or listening to a podcast, I take what resonates with me and apply it to how I think and approach things.
I need to do what is authentic to me, my role, and Service Express. Don’t listen to people who tell you there’s only one way to do something. Always search, learn and connect with those who share your experiences. Apply what resonates with you and see if it works.
