This is one of the great truths that I’ve learned in business as a leader. Teach, coach, develop, listen and care.
When we’ve tried to drive numbers only by focusing on revenue or when we’ve been all numbers driven without looking at people first, we’ve failed at what we were doing.
Our core value is to help people achieve their personal, professional and financial goals. If we surround ourselves with the right people, find out what they want to achieve and then work to do that and help them hit their goals, our company goals will be blown out of the water.
I encourage you to take a step back, resist the urge to let the numbers drive everything. Instead, come alongside your team, learn about their individual “why”. This will help your coaching effectiveness-praise lavishly and correct constructively. When people know you truly care, this is when they succeed the most.
Your people are going to take great care of your customers, drive revenue and hit all of the numbers you want to hit, but you’ve got to put them first!
