Emerging Leaders

by | Oct 29, 2020 | Leadership, Video

I was recently asked to share a few of my thoughts on leadership and what we expect from leaders here at Service Express. There are three main points I want to share, but keep in mind, there’s always more to consider when looking at leadership.

  1. Be a Servant Leader

This means you put others before yourself. It’s no longer about you anymore. When you’re a leader, it’s about putting your team’s needs before your own. My favorite Zig Ziglar quote that I live by is, “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help other people get what they want.” When you’re a new leader, you don’t give orders. Instead, you come aside with your people and ask them how you can help.

  1. Coach & Teach

I frequently talk about my experience in college and how I wanted to be a teacher and coach. The reality is, I’m still doing those things but at Service Express. When you’re a leader, you’re going to give performance feedback to your people. The key is to communicate and give quality feedback. Walk alongside your people and continue to work with them until they get it; that’s true coaching in my eyes.

  1. Learn the Whole Business

The real value comes in when you know how your team impacts the performance of other teams and the entire business. Of course, you’re going to be an expert in your lane, but knowing how everything works around you is critical. Always ask how you can help and what your team needs to do better.

If you do these three things well, you are on your way to becoming a great leader, not only at Service Express but in any organization. Don’t hesitate to reach out if I can help in any way!
