Track Your Goals

by | Apr 14, 2022 | Leadership

I saw a great Tweet recently that said, “Be stubborn about your goals but flexible about your methods.” How are we doing as we sit here in April, the second quarter of the year? We all set goals at the beginning of the year and took off flying, motivated, and ready to get after it. Now, we’re in the second quarter. If your year is like my year, some goals are going according to plan, some are ahead, and some are behind. So, what are we doing about it?

I always like to be focused and intentional, which I do by tracking my goals and paying attention to how I’m performing. If you’re hitting them, ask yourself why. What are you doing? What are the key actions causing you to hit your goals? Then make sure you keep doing that, and maybe double down on that action if you want to get ahead of the game.

Also, ask yourself why you’re not hitting your goals. What are the root causes? What adjustments can you make? Maybe it takes patience; you may be on the right path, and what you’re doing takes time to pay off. It’s important to understand this when deciding if you should continue in the same direction. You may need to be flexible about your methods and make changes to complete your goals.

Now is the time to gut-check! Don’t wait until the second half of the year; it could be too late. I track my goals quarterly. I’m always looking at monthly and quarterly results for Service Express and my personal life. I ask myself what am I achieving and why? Then I figure out how to keep performing. I also ask myself what am I not achieving and why not? Then I can adjust to get back on track.

Always track your goals and adjust accordingly. I look at mine monthly and again at the end of the quarter. Try it out! Determine what’s going well and what adjustments need to be made. I hope you’re doing well.
