Movement Is Key

by | Dec 7, 2023 | Leadership

I believe movement is a key to life.

I love the phrase, “Motion is lotion.” Get out and move! I just got back from a 30-minute walk. I had a call I needed to take, so I figured I’d do it during my walk. I’ve been trying to get more movement into my day, and this is a point of emphasis for me as I finish 2023 and start 2024.

If you’ve followed me for a long time, you know I do CrossFit workouts in the morning before work. I’ve always been a morning workout person.

The owner of my CrossFit gym, 8th Day Gym, recently challenged me to build more movement into my day. He said it’s great that I go there for my workout, but it can’t be the only thing I do during the day. For me and my role, there’s too much sitting. I sit at my desk, planes, meetings, cars, etc. I can’t just work out in the morning and think it’s enough for the day.

I need to build in movement throughout the day, and a good and easy way to do that is by going for walks. My goal is to do 10,000 steps a day. To accomplish that goal, I need to take walking breaks. A great time to do that is when I need to make a phone call; it’s a good time to connect and catch up. Other great movement breaks could include push-ups, air squats, stretching, etc.

Looking out my office window, I see other team members taking walking breaks, which is great to see. Motion is lotion; it’s a part of the health journey. We should all be focused on health. It’s my goal to build movement into my days as often as possible; I’ll get fresh air and clear my mind. I’d love to hear how you build movement into your day. Share your ideas, and I might try it out myself!
