I’ve been traveling again and have been on a plane almost every week for the last couple of months. During the pandemic, it was nice not to be traveling all the time, but a recent flight reminded me of something that I forgot I enjoyed. Traveling gets me away from my screen. It’s nice to be unavailable; it gives my mind the ability to wander, think of new ideas and read. Not that I don’t do these things when I’m not traveling, but sometimes it’s hard to after back-to-back zoom calls all day. The time that I was on a plane was the only screen time I had. I found it refreshing, and it reminded me how important this time is.
Getting out of the office and away from screens is healthy for so many reasons. The key benefit that jumped out was the time to think. I was able to reflect, read, and come up with ideas that could help my professional and personal life. I hope you take this with you if you’re travelling or not. It’s good to think about and practice on trips to remember why you’re travelling. Even if you’re not traveling, figure out how to build this into your schedule, whether taking breaks, walks, runs, or however you get away from your screen. Give yourself the time to let your mind wander and see what ideas come to you!
