I saw a tweet by Brad Stulberg with ideas that lead to success. Two ideas jumped out at me that I want to share with you.
- “Do not worry about being the best; worry about being the best at getting better.”
Focus on constant improvement: always learning, growing, taking action and failing forward. Be the best at getting better every day and watch how much it adds up.
I recommend the book The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. It talks about this idea of incremental improvement every day that leads to a huge breakthrough. Sometimes great success looks like it happened overnight, but it doesn’t. Huge breakthroughs occur after a lot of days, months and years of doing something consistently.
- “Do not focus on being consistently great; focus on being great at being consistent.”
What are the daily habits that we’re working on? Every day, focus on these daily habits over and over again. As I’ve talked about, I’m big on goal setting. But I don’t want to hear about your goals. I want to hear about the habits that will lead you to these goals.
We all have big plans for 2023, and time goes fast. We’re already 25% of the way through the year. Reflect back on the first quarter and assess your habits. Have we been consistent with the daily habits that will allow us to achieve those goals? Sometimes we get so focused on achieving the big goal that we forget our daily habits.
Be the best at getting better. Now is the time to reflect, see what adjustments need to be made, make those adjustments and be better going forward.
