In last week’s blog, I shared how Discomfort Builds Confidence. Helping our teams be confident and uncomfortable is part of our job as leaders.
I saw a great Tweet that ties into this from Sahil Bloom, who wrote The Five Types of Wealth. It’s a great new book—I highly recommend reading it.
His Tweet said, “Your entire life will change when you realize not all days are created equal. The days when it feels hard count twice as much. The days when it feels impossible count 10x. Those days cement your identity as someone who shows up. Never bet against the person who just keeps showing up.”
Being uncomfortable means showing up—not just when it’s easy or convenient—but when it’s hard. When it feels impossible, that’s when it matters most.
As a leader, I’m always looking to surround myself with people who keep showing up. When things get tough, they don’t back down. They lean in. They show up. That’s half the battle, just showing up.
Be that person. Be someone others can count on. It may not seem like a high bar, but if you do that, you’ll stand out. You’ll be in the top 10%.
If you show up, stay self-reflective, keep learning and keep growing—you’ll pull far ahead in whatever you do. That’s been my experience at Service Express, both personally and with the people around me.
It doesn’t take talent to show up. It takes guts, discipline and commitment.
That’s what we look for, and I hope that’s what you look for too. Build that into your teams!
