Pause & Practice Gratitude

by | Nov 28, 2024 | Leadership

Recently, I was on a CEO retreat in Montana. We were hiking through the beautiful country, walking along a river with mountains in the background; it was incredibly picturesque. While we hiked, I talked with another CEO about business, life, and the importance of stepping back and reflecting to gain perspective.

He said something that really hit me: “It’s like right now—walking along this path. I could just look down and focus on the trail in front of me. But if I don’t step back and look around, I’ll miss the beauty surrounding me.” As he said that, I realized I’d been staring at the ground ahead and watching where I was going, but I hadn’t really taken in the mountains and everything around me.

It was such a powerful reminder of how we often move through life—focused on our day-to-day tasks, week-to-week routines and constant push forward. We sometimes forget to pause, step back and appreciate all the good things around us.

This Thanksgiving it’s the perfect time to look around and see all the goodness in your life. Yes, we all have challenges and problems. Still, when I take a step back and look around, I see all the blessings in my life: friends, family, a fantastic company to work for, meaningful relationships and exciting opportunities. All these things make life fulfilling, and I am so grateful for all of it.

To everyone in my life, thank you. I am truly appreciative of you. As we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the United States, I want to wish you a happy Thanksgiving and encourage you to step back, look around and appreciate all the good things you have. Even if you’re not celebrating Thanksgiving, it’s still a great time to reflect on your blessings.

Thank you, everyone. I appreciate you, and I hope you have a great day!
