Last week I shared the importance of Avoiding Recency Bias in Reviews. Staying on the subject of reviews, I want to share another tip we discussed during our training sessions at Service Express. Never submit a review after just one pass. Never rush the process just to check it off your to-do list.
It’s never a good idea to write a review quickly and submit it right away. I always recommend doing at least two to three revisions. Write the review, then step away for a few days—maybe even a week. Come back to it with fresh eyes and look for areas to improve. Then, sit on it again for a while before making another round of adjustments. You should go through this process at least two or three times.
A review shouldn’t be something you rush through just to get it done. Be thoughtful. Giving great feedback is important—it’s a big responsibility.
One of the key takeaways from our training was that taking your time also helps remove bias. If you’re having a bad day, didn’t sleep well, or are feeling stressed, that could affect your review. Spacing out your revisions over two or three weeks helps ensure your feedback is as fair and objective as possible.
Let me know how you handle your reviews! This process has worked really well for us. I strongly encourage you to plan ahead. If a review is due in a week or two, you can’t just start at the last minute. I start mine 60 days in advance so I have plenty of time to revise and give the best feedback possible.
