Consistency Always Wins

How often do we apply consistency to our lives to see an impact? One example could be healthy eating. Have you ever eaten healthy for a few days and then jumped on the scale to see how much weight you’ve lost? A day or two of healthy eating doesn’t lead to success; it’s the continuous daily, week after week of healthy eating. Just like a day of healthy eating won’t change anything, a day of unhealthy eating won’t ruin anything; it’s about what you do over time. Same with working out. Two workouts don’t get you in shape, and two missed workouts don’t get you out of shape. It’s all about consistency.

The same is true for professional development. I’m big on reading 10-15 minutes a day, consistently! That’s led to me reading a book a month or 12 books a year over the last 20 years. Everything is done consistently. To me, that’s how you win.

Look at sales results. People have good months, quarters or years. The question is whether or not you can do it over and over again. At Service Express, we’ve made the Inc. 5000 List of America’s Fastest-Growing Companies in 13 out of 14 years. Out of 5,000 companies, we typically rank in the low 4,000 or high 3,000. We’re not at the top, but we’re on the list almost every year. We’re in the top 1-2% of companies that have been on it that many times. We don’t grow just one year, then stop; we consistently grow every year. We consistently see double-digit growth, and over time adds up to a lot.

Think about where you can apply consistency for impact or reflect on where you lack consistency in your life and the results you see from that. Consistency always wins!
