2 Lessons for Lasting Growth

by | Feb 6, 2025 | Leadership

No matter where you are in life, there are two things I’ve always found to be true. These apply to both personal life and professional life.

First, no matter how much success you’ve had so far, you haven’t “made it.” There’s a saying: “Success is not owned. It’s rented, and rent is due every day.” Congratulations on whatever Success you’ve achieved so far, but you can’t stop now. If you stop striving for more, you’ll get passed by. You have to keep working, learning and growing.

Second, no matter what challenges you’ve faced so far, you’re not finished. There’s a saying: “Failure is not fatal.” It’s temporary. If you get knocked down seven times, you get up eight. That’s how you move forward. No matter what’s happened, you can always start fresh today. You can always keep moving forward. That’s the key to overcoming tough spots.

I’ve experienced both—Success and challenges. And I’ve learned that both are temporary. As I mentioned in a previous blog, there’s a great quote from Tom Hanks: “This too shall pass.” If you’re at a high point in life, enjoy it, but remember—this too shall pass, so keep striving. If you’re at a low point, don’t worry—this too shall pass. Just keep working, keep pushing forward.

As Rocky Balboa said, “That’s how winning is done.”
